    GSM Update
    Dhiraagu announces today that in preparation for the installation of the new GSM system, Dhiraagu has started replacing AMPS base stations with GSM equipment this month.

    This means the existing mobile service will cease from areas other than Male' and Villingili area with effect from 9th September 1999. However service will continue as usual, within Male' and Villingili area.

    Earlier we announced that the service would cease in these areas in early August. The Acting General Manager of Dhiraagu, Mr. Ian Shepherd said " In our efforts to minimize any inconvenience that we may cause our customers during the transition from AMPS to GSM, we rescheduled this work to September."

    As announced earlier, Dhiraagu still plans for the soft launch of the GSM service in October and full commercial launch of the service in November, this year.
