Today we celebrate the 6th anniversary of DhivehiNet, the Maldives Internet Service.
Over the last 6 years, Dhiraagu introduced a number of advanced new services to meet the evolving needs of our customers, reduced the prices 7 times and conducted various educational activities to increase Internet awareness in the Maldives.
Highlights of the last 12 months include:
• Launch of high speed Internet services - ISDN dial-up access at 128kbps, leased 128kbps access and up to 256kbps via ADSL.
• Introduction of DhivehiNet Pre-Paid for those who do not have their own telephone line or wish to work within set budgets.
• Reduction of dial-up rates by up to 54%, leased access prices by 37% and the introduction of 1-second billing.
• Launch of the "Internet for Schools" program offering 75% discount on DhivehiNet usage for all the schools in the Maldives.
• Introduction of special incentives to encourage private parties to open public Internet access points in the Atolls.
• The opening of a new bigger Cyber Café in Male'.
As in previous years, a number of activities are being planned to celebrate the occasion, including 50% discount on DhivehiNet dial-up access between 14 - 31 October 2002, the Dhiraagu Internet Fair 2002, an Internet Gaming Competition and the Dhiraagu Internet Awards 2002. More details of these will be announced over the coming days.
