Dhiraagu signs a contract value Mrf 62.6 million with Ericsson for the installation of the new Telephone Exchange.
The contract was signed on 18th April 1999 at a ceremony held at Relax Inn by the General Manager of Dhiraagu Mr. Bob Ure, on behalf of Dhiraagu and Mr. Boa Almloaf Managing Director Ericsson Telecommunications Lanka, on behalf of Ecrisson.
The new Telephone Exchange is a replacement of the old Male' telephone exchange which has been upgraded to its full capacity. The old exchange does not have the capability to provide some of the new telecom services, which DHIRAAGU plans to offer customers.
The General Manager of Dhiraagu Mr. Bob Ure said, "The new state of the Art Ecricsson exchange will give us the capability to provide new and exciting services to our customers. And also it will bring a permanent solution to the current exchange overload problem."
The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Hussein Shareef, Director General, Telecoms Department, Mr. Albert Kippa, Director of Business Management, Ericsson Telecommunications AB, Mr. Scott Odgers (Ericsson), Mr. Johan Nordstrom (Ericssion), Ms Jacqueline Holding Head of Fianace Dhiraagu, Mr. Ismail Waheed Head of Networks Dhiraagu, Mr. Ian Shepherd Head of Services Dhiraagu, Mr. Ismail Rasheed Manger Networks Planning and Projects Dhiraagu and Mr. Mohammed Abdul Gadir Dhiraagu Project Manager for the new Exchange Project.
DHIRAAGU plans to commence service of the new exchange before the end of 1999.
