Dhiraagu Extends DhiMobile Service To Addu Atoll
Dhiraagu is pleased to announce the introduction of DhiMobile service to Addu Atoll today.

The service was officially inaugurated by the Minister of Communications, Science and Technology Mr. Midhath Hilmy by calling the Atoll Chief of Addu Atoll, Mr. Hamid Yoosuf, on his mobile phone.

The ceremony in Male' was attended by Dhiraagu CEO Ismail Waheed and senior officials from the Communication Ministry and Dhiraagu while the ceremony in Seenu Hithadhoo was attended by the Addu Atoll Chief and Island Chiefs of the Atoll.

The introduction of DhiMobile service in Addu Atoll is part of a Rf110 million project to extend mobile coverage to 16 islands in 7 Atolls in 2003. When this project is completed later this year, mobile coverage will be available in all resorts and 86 other islands in 19 Atolls covering 73% of the country's population.

An important highlight of this major project is the use of satellite technology to overcome the geographical distances and to connect the mobile network in the Southern Atolls with the main mobile exchange in Male' - a costly and technically complex method of interconnection rarely used by mobile operators in other countries.

Dhiraagu CEO, Ismail Waheed said, "Since DhiMobile GSM service was introduced in late 1999, we have expanded the coverage to a number of new islands each year.

Dhiraagu is committed to invest strategically to extend coverage to more islands where feasible, further enhance the quality of the existing service and to introduce the latest exciting service enhancements to ensure that DhiMobile remains the mobile service of choice for all our customers."
