Dhiraagu has been appointed as the connectivity provider of the Government Network of Maldives (GNM). GNM is the the network where all the official applications and softwares of the government are integrated into.
The agreement was signed today between the National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT) and Dhiraagu at a special ceremony held at the Dhiraagu Head Office.
The agreement was signed on behalf of Dhiraagu by CEO&MD Mr. Ismail Rasheed and Dhiraagu Director Customer Services & Sales Mr. Ali Riyaz. Executive Coordinator of NCIT Mr. Ahmed Azhan Shameem and IT Manager, E-Government Framework Mr. Ahmed Haleem signed on behalf of NCIT.
This network enables the government to provide decentralized services via island council. Services include:
· Government E-Letter Management System(GEMS): a system used for fast delivery of government communications such as formal letters and faxes.
· The Government payment systems
· Government HR and Payroll system
· National ID Card, Driving License, Trade Relates services through the councils
In addition, the network also enables the communication between Government to Government Systems to cut down processing time. Services such as Business Identity and National ID Card verification services. The national border control system is also managed with in the network and connects all International Airport.
Other services include, court video conference facilities and connection of MIRA offices for tax services across the country.
The network plays a pivotal role for upcoming e-government projects and online applications such as Online trade registration and Expat services.
Executive Coordinator of NCIT Mr. Ahmed Azhan Shameem said, “With the renewal of this agreement and the increase of speed with the new services provided, we will now be able to enhance this service provided to the people of the Maldives and also to process the services faster than before. Since this is a nationwide service, we looked for the company with the ability and the resources to roll out the connectivity across the country with ease and also be in a position to solve the technical issues promptly without any disruptions. We would also like to note that these services are implemented ease due to the support given by our President HE Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom.”
Further to that NCIT’s IT Manager, E-Government Framework Mr. Ahmed Haleem said that they believed Dhiraagu is the only service provider in the country who has the ability to bring up the service via backup connectivity in case of unexpected service outages and that was one of the main reasons Dhiraagu was chosen as their connectivity provider.
