Dhiraagu and SparkHub today announced the arrival of
Angelhack, the world’s biggest hackathon
to the Maldives.
The announcement was made at the official launching ceremony
held at Dhiraagu Head Office today. Angelhack Maldives is organized locally by
DHIRAAGU and SPARKHUB and the two-day hakcethon
will kick off on July 21, the organizing duo said.
In case you are unfamiliar with Angelhack, it is a is a global hackathon
organization founded in 2011 which began in San Francisco and expanded to more
than 150 cities with around 150,000+ developers, designers, and
entrepreneurs to become holistic and well-rounded hackers through programs that
solve issues ranging from social impact to enterprise.
Every year, AngelHack adventures across the globe for the
yearly Global Hackathon Series. Over the course of Summer 2018, they hit six
continents, bridging the gap between Silicon Valley innovation and
entrepreneurs all over the world together, where entrants compete to build,
test and launch new software solutions over the course of a weekend. This year,
AngelHack intends to organise 300 hackathons over the period 4 months,
bringing together more than 10,000+ developers in 60+
cities and AngelHack's winning team from every
city hackathon will join the AngelHack Accelerator
programme, the HACKcelerator.
The 12-week Hackcelerator program is invite-only, which
narrows the focus towards hackathon projects (from AngelHack’s
Global Hackathon Series) and turning them into viable startups that can
afterwards choose to either enter into an accelerator or to bootstrap their
way, hopefully to startup success.
This
is for the first time in Maldives an opportunity as such big would be made
available for the tech community to grow further, as the winning team from the
AngelHack Maldives would be getting the direct entry into the Hackcelerator and
at the end of the program, select teams will be invited to San Francisco for
Global Demo Day and the opportunity to pitch their new Startup to a room of
investors from the Silicon Valley.
Ali Haris, Managing Partner of SparkHub said
that, “Previous AngelHack winners around the world have gone on to attend
famous incubators, including YCombinator, TechStars, AngelPad, MassChallenge
and 500 Startups, and have also received attention from big players in the
industry. And this gives a chance for developers and coders of the country to
hack into the international market. Together with Dhiraagu, we are very proud
to finally bring this to the Maldives.”
Ahmed
Maumoon, Dhiraagu’s Acting Chief Marketing Officer said “With our focus on
youth empowerment and innovation, we are very proud to organize the first and
biggest international hackathon in Maldives together with Sparkhub and support
the local tech community under our CSR programme. This would be a great
opportunity for local developers and coders to take their startup ideas into a
global accelerator programme.
