Dhiraagu and SparkHub Announce Maldives’ First Generative AI Hackathon

Dhiraagu and SparkHub have announced the Maldives’ first Generative AI Hackathon, a key initiative aimed at empowering startups, entrepreneurs, and innovators to shape the future of industry and innovation through AI.

The hackathon will bring together young innovators to explore how Generative AI can significantly reduce build time, enabling teams to move from ideas to a live product within 48 hours using AI-powered tools and platforms.

Participants will benefit from intensive, curated AI sessions led by expert practitioners, providing hands-on guidance across ideation, development, deployment, and product launch, with mentors experienced in modern AI tools supporting teams during the hackathon.
Unlike most hackathons, GenAI Hack follows an open-category format, targeted at teams developing entirely new solutions created during the event, encouraging originality and fostering an innovation-driven environment. The hackathon is an initiative by Dhiraagu and SparkHub, with Synetecs coming onboard as a co-partner.

A defining principle of the hackathon is “No shipping, no pitching.” Teams are required to publicly launch their product during the event prior to final pitching. Rather than slide decks or conceptual demonstrations, judges will evaluate fully functional products that are live and accessible to the public.
“The rapid advancement of generative AI makes it increasingly important to actively engage communities in hands-on adoption of these technologies. This initiative reflects Dhiraagu’s commitment to equipping Maldivian innovators with the tools, skills, and confidence to build, experiment, and launch AI-driven solutions in real-world settings, while supporting community-led innovation”, stated Mirshan Hassan, Director Brand & Marketing Communications at Dhiraagu.

Sharing SparkHub’s perspective, Hussain Jinan, CEO and Co-founder of SparkHub, stated that, “Globally, founders are using AI to overcome skill gaps and dramatically accelerate product development. GenAI Hack was designed to reflect this shift by moving beyond conventional hackathons and placing emphasis on real product launches rather than conceptual demonstrations.”

GenAI Hack 2026 is scheduled to take place from 6th to 8th February 2026 and is open to teams of three to five members, with limited slots available on a first-come, first-served basis.
