    Closing Ceremony of the Third Edition of Mamen Inter-School Cycling Championship was held last night

    The closing ceremony of the Third Edition of Mamen Inter-School Cycling Championship 2022 was held last night. More than 1000 cyclists from 32 schools participated in this event by Dhiraagu and Bike Maldives, which took place from 16-17 September 2022 at the Hulhumale’ Phase 2, Cycling Track.

    Speaking at the closing ceremony held last night, Director Brand and Marketing Communications at Dhiraagu, Mohamed Mirshan Hassan stated, “We hope that this competition fosters the interest of many students for cycling, not just as a sport, but also as a way to be healthier and take better care of our environment.”

    “We are delighted with the support of students, teachers, and parents for this event. We hope that this creates a new group of competitive cyclists in the Maldives, who can represent Maldives in international competitions. We also thank Dhiraagu for their continuous support in contributing towards the development of cycling sports in the Maldives,” stated Zulaikha Hasan Didi, President of Bike Maldives.

    The Chief Guest of the ceremony was Minister of State for Environment, Climate Change and Technology, Dr. Abdulla Naseer. Three male and female winners as well as three winning teams from each Mixed Team Pursuit were chosen from each competitive category. Champion Schools were also chosen from each age category:

    • Under 13 (Male) – Iskandhar School
    • Under 13 (Female) – Kalaafaanu School
    • Under 15 (Male) – Billabong High International School
    • Under 15 (Female) – Ghaazee School
    • Under 17 (Male) – Hiriya School
    • Under 17 (Female) – Hiriya School
    • Under 19 (Male) – Centre for Higher Secondary Education

    This year’s Mamen Inter-School Cycling Championship was the first 100-percent green energy event of this scale to be conducted in the Maldives, and was fully powered with solar energy, with electricity provided by portable power stations.

    Dhiraagu remains committed to organising events that promote environment-friendly practices, community engagement and sports, especially targeted towards young children and youth.
