Dhiraagu would like to advise our customers that all fixed line numbers in the Maldives will change from the current 6 digits to 7 digits on 29 July 2005.

With this change, an extra ‘3’ will be added in front of all fixed line numbers in Male’, Villingili, Hulhule’ and Hulhumale’ and the first 2 digits of all fixed line numbers in the rest of the country will be replaced by a new 3 digit code identifying the Atoll.

Fixed line customers, except those in the atolls that currently share the same first 2 digits, will be able receive incoming calls on the old and new number for the first 2 months after the changeover. Thereafter, callers will hear a recorded announcement for a further 2 months, guiding them to dial correctly.

Due to technical reasons, fixed line customers in the atolls that currently share the same first 2 digits will not receive incoming calls on the old numbers. Callers to these numbers will hear a recorded announcement from the date of the changeover, guiding them to dial correctly.

To minimize the impact of this unavoidable change, Dhiraagu advises all our customers to update the stored numbers in their phones, fax machines and PC dialers immediately after this change.

Dhiraagu also advises our customers to inform their family, friends and business colleagues overseas of the change and to use the new numbers when reprinting stationary such as business cards and letterheads after 29 July.

The decision to change the Maldives telephone and mobile numbers was made by the Telecommunications Authority of Maldives (TAM) to create additional numbers to meet the growing demand, especially with the introduction of mobile competition.
