To address critical need for capacity expansion to deliver high speed broadband service to our customers in the islands and enhance the digital experience of our customers across the country, we have signed an agreement with HMN Technologies Co., Ltd and Ooredoo Maldives PLC to expand Domestic Submarine Cable Systems. The joint agreement will enable us to reduce the infrastructure cost whilst ensuring independent expansion on network to the islands in the region.
Under this expansion project, an additional four submarine cable segments will be constructed with a total length of 168.5km which will be linked to our existing 1253km domestic submarine cable laid across the country. This project which is expected to be completed by Q4 2023 will connect the following node points:
With the swift rapid growth in new businesses and island developments in these regions, this expansion will enhance our capacity to meet the increasing demands of our customers in these regions. This key investment will boost the overall resiliency and performance of the internet infrastructure in the Maldives, supporting the socioeconomic development within the country.
This project will significantly improve the quality and speed of our mobile and fibre broadband services to the islands in the region, that enables customers to access digital services that help improve their livelihoods, in line with our vision to “enrich lives”.
