
Dhiraagu Apprentice Program is an educational and training program designed to provide the successful candidates (Apprentices) the skills and knowledge needed for the specific discipline along which he/she is keen to develop competencies and provide them with paid work experience so that they can earn while they learn.
Each apprentice will be on the program for a one year period, at the successful completion of which the apprentice will be awarded a completion certificate. To further enhance the benefits of the program, for those apprentices who successfully complete the one year, an opportunity to complete a second year as an apprentice may be offered. Alternatively, the apprentice may also be offered permanent employment with Dhiraagu subject to availability and performance of the apprentice during the program.

Provide the apprentices with generic skills which are considered important for many jobs across different disciplines to make them more competent. These will include skills such as communication, planning and organizing, problem solving and decision making, customer care, occupational health and safety.
Help the apprentices build confidence and self esteem in order to make them effective team members at the workplace as well as help them face the changes and challenges in life.
Help the apprentices seek their desired job by providing them with the necessary skills to prepare them for employment interviews, researching jobs / vacancies, and developing effective CVs.
The program structure Structured training / related instruction
The apprentice will use various resources to build his / her knowledge of the specific discipline along which he / she is keen to develop competencies. These will mostly be educational experiences which may include trainings, workshops, courses based on core competencies required for the job.
On-the-job learning
On-the-job learning under the guidance of experienced and qualified personnel provides the opportunity to demonstrate specific skills in several areas; including team work, customer services, work planning and time management, which will be beneficial in real-life situations and at work.
Mentoring
The apprentice will maintain a one-on-one mentor relationship with an experienced member of Dhiraagu team during the apprenticeship. Mentors are not necessarily super visors, but coaches who will help apprentices learn skills they need to do their jobs successfully.

The apprentice package

As an apprentice you will be entitled to:
A monthly apprentice allowance based on the level of education / training completed by applicants.
Medical cover for the apprentice, after completing 6 months of the program

Graduation criteria
The primary focus of the program is on developing the skills of the chosen discipline, gain self-confidence, learn work ethics and build the apprentice's competence to become a professional.
Graduation requirements will include the following:
Achieving a minimum of 50% in the exam(s) (where appropriate)
Achieving 90% of attendance
Achieving a satisfactory performance level
Elimination from the program
Should the Apprentice fail to maintain a satisfactory attendance, conduct or performance during the apprentice program, Dhiraagu will reserve the right to withdraw the offer made and remove the individual from the apprentice program.

Which area / field should I choose?
If you want to do well as an apprentice, it is very important that you are focused on the career you want. As such, you need to carefully think about what you want to do / your career before you apply for a particular area. Remember to take into account your personality, interests, talents and skills before you decide which career to follow, because the right type of job for you depends on these.
Where? Is it in Male' only?
Opportunities are available in Male' as well as in all our operation and maintenance centres. However, there are some areas available in specific places only. Therefore, please check the locations carefully before applying.
What are the application requirements?
Apprenticeships will be offered to individuals who meet the following criteria:
Maldivian National
Aged between 18 - 30 years
Not employed in a full-time job
Minimum qualification - 3 A' level passes (not below a 'C' grade)
During selection, priority will be given to individuals who have completed a vocational training in their selected disciplines and who are looking for an opportunity to gain work experience and improve the necessary skills for a better employment opportunity.
What happens after you send the application?
Whether you are short-listed or not, your application status will be advised to you through e-mail or by telephone within 5 working days after the closing date for applications
The selection process is just like any other job application process. The short listed candidates may have to go through one or more interviews and / or even take some tests before the selections are made. Therefore, be prepared and present yourself well.
