| What is DhivehiNet Dedicated Satellite Access Service?
DhivehiNet Dedicated Satellite Access service uses a 2-way satellite antenna at the customer premises to provide high speed Internet Access direct from satellite.
Who is DhivehiNet Dedicated Satellite Access for?
The service is primarily targeted at businesses and Government offices outside Male’, who require fast web browsing, downloading large files and providing Internet access to multiple users over a Local Area Network.
How fast is the connection speed?
DhivehiNet Dedicated Satellite Access service provides download speed of up to 1Mbps..
Similar to all other modes of Internet access, the actual throughput can be impacted by various factors, including (but not limited to) slow response of the content server, capacity of the content server, distance to the content server, international bandwidth through which content is transported etc. These factors are not under the control of Dhiraagu or any single ISP.
What are the packages available?
Tthe following packages are available.
128Kbps download / 32Kbps upload.
256Kbps download / 64Kbps upload.
512Kbps download / 128Kbps upload.
1Mbps download / 256Kbps upload.
The package comes bundled with the DhivehiNet Web Hosting Gold Package, which includes 50 e-mails, 200 Megabytes of web space and 5 Class C IP addresses, at no additional cost.
Can I use this service anywhere in the Maldives?
Yes. As the service uses direct communication with satellite, it can be used by customers anywhere in the Maldives.
How am I billed for this service?
A one time setup fee and a fixed monthly charge is all you need to pay for unlimited usage. (i.e. you are not charged for the duration you are online or the amount of data you download)
What kind of equipment do I need to receive the service?
The equipment will run on standard 220V electricity using built-in adaptors. Customer will need to provide uninterruptible power supply to the equipment site. For safety reasons, the satellite equipment should only be powered through a standard UPS.
More specifically, the customer should provide a standard compact UPS along with the power extension to the equipment site.
What kind of power is required for the equipment?

What height is required for the dish antenna?
The dish antenna should be installed on a special base at ground level. Dhiraagu will provide you the specifications for the foundation. Height is not important other than what is required to move the dish antenna to synchronize with the satellite. (122 deg. East)
Clear sight to the sky is essential. (I.e. The dish antenna should not be located under a tree or near to an object blocking dish antenna’s sight to the satellite). 122 E
Can I connect this service to our company network (LAN)?
Yes. DhivehiNet Dedicated satellite Access is designed for the LAN environment. Connection is simple as we will provide a standard RJ-45 output for connection to your network.
In a typical configuration, you can configure a proxy server on a computer on your LAN, and connect the proxy server to DhivehiNet Dedicated Access service. All users on the LAN can use this proxy for high speed Internet.
What is the ideal distance of the satellite equipment from the network hub?
There are 2 different components of the service that requires specific distance specifications to be met.
i- Distance from the Dish Antenna to the satellite network equipment (Router, Hub and other equipment required to synchronize the 2-way internet service with the satellite network) must be within 100ft.
ii- Distance from the satellite network equipment to customer LAN hub (network hub used to feed the internet service in to the subscriber network) must be within 100 Meters
Installing the satellite equipment and extending the distance specifications may require changes to several components such as type of cable, additional equipment, etc. In such cases, Dhiraagu will provide the customer with a quotation of the additional expenses before proceeding with the installation.
How long does it take for Dhiraagu to install the service?
As the satellite antenna and other necessary equipment are imported on order, the lead-time can be between 4 to 6 weeks from receipt of your application.
