| Other than fast access speed, what are the other advantages of an ISDN line?
An ISDN-2 line has 2 channels. This means that you can make two simultaneous voice calls or browse the Internet while talking on the phone. ISDN connection setup time is much faster (3 - 10 seconds) compared to ordinary lines (approximately 45 seconds).
What changes do I need to make on my computer dial-up settings to use ISDN?
You don't need any special dial-up or browser settings other than the dial-up number (127). Just install the ISDN modem using the software that comes with it and make sure your computer uses this modem to dial 127.
How do I choose my dial-up speed options for 64kbps and 128kbps?
An ISDN-2 line has 2-channels of 64kbps each. When you dial 127 using your ISDN modem the basic connection speed is 64kbps. Depending on what you do on the Internet, if your computer requires higher speed, (additional bandwidth) the modem automatically dials a second call to DhivehiNet using the second channel, and bonds the two channels together for a 128kbps connection.
What is channel bonding?
This is the option to combine your two 64kbps ISDN-2 channels to create a faster digital link operating at 128kbps. This will probably involve re-configuring your access application (typically Dial-up Networking).
How do I get charged for 128kbps DhivehiNet access?
There is no separate tariff for 128kbps. A 128kbps digital call is treated as two 64kbps calls and you will be charged for two 64kbps ISDN calls.
Can I limit my DhivehiNet access to 64kbps only?
Yes, usually this setting is available on your ISDN modem software.
I can connect to DhivehiNet at 64kbps, but not at 128kbps. Why?
By default Dhiraagu allows you to work at 128kbps speed.
Make sure you use your unique UserID and Password provided to you at the time of installation of ISDN line. If this does not solve your problem check that your modem type is capable of operating at 128kbps and ensure that it is properly configured.
How do I know my connected speed (64kbps or 128kbps)?
By double-clicking on the "systray" connection-icon, you will be able to see your connection speed on the pop-up dialog box. Most ISDN modems also have separate LEDs for each channel (B1/B2). Usually the lit LED indicates established connection.
Can I still use the Instant Internet CD with an ISDN line?
Yes, the Instant Internet CD provides you with a user-ID and a password which you can use to access DhivehiNet. The CD when run, sets-up your dial-up module and browser setting such as your proxy address. Hence you can still use the CD. However, you would need to change the dial-up number manually to 127.
