Dhiraagu owns and operates a fully digital communications network reaching every inhabited island and tourist resort in the Maldives. Due to the geography of the country, the network backbone is primarily a microwave radio system using a combination of Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) and Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy (PDH) technology.

Dhiraagu has established a state-of-the-art fibre-optic submarine cable network with International links connecting Maldives and Sri Lanka, also domestic links established between the islands of Hulhumale and Male’, Male’ and Villingili, and links connecting two atolls in the southern region; Laam Atoll and GaafDhaal Atoll. In addition to this, a nationwide submarine cable network roll-out program, to lay a fiber optic submarine cable network system from north to south across the Maldives is in progress.
